I do agree that grades encourage students to learn for two reasons. The first reason is they can compete against the other students. I am a competitive person, so during school I would always compete against my friend to see who would get the higher grades. It is a lot of fun, unless you lose. The second reason is for personal achievements. Earning a high grade in school is extremely satisfying, especially if you are someone that has to work harder than most people do to get those grades. Therefore, these reasons are why I agree that grades encourage students to learn.
